Home Care Services

There are a variety of home care, personal support, and community services available to seniors living in North & Central Wellington.  You do not need a doctor to refer you to any of the services. 

  1. The Seniors' Centre for Excellence offers House Cleaning Services for older adults (55+) and adults with disabilities.  The cost is currently $22.50 per hour, with a two-hour minimum visit ($45 per visit), payable to the homemaker directly at the time of the service.  Please contact the Seniors' Centre directly if you are interested in this service.  

2. Both the VON and other Community Services in our area offer valuable services to older adults.  Please open the drop-down menus below for more information.

Victorian Order of Nurses (VON)

The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) is Canada's largest, national, not-for-profit, charitable home and community care organization. This organization offers personal support and community services to enhance each client's quality of life.

Services include the following:

  • Meals on Wheels

Volunteers deliver nourishing, affordable hot meals, which include soup, a main course, and dessert, to people unable to cook or shop for themselves.  Frozen meals are also available.  

  • Transportation

For older adults (55+) and adults with disabilities who have no access to transportation for medical appointments, grocery shopping, adult day programs, and other appointments.   Please note that you have to register for this service at least three days in advance.  The length of your trip will be used to calculate the cost.  

  • House cleaning (part of Assisted Living / Support for Daily Living)

House cleaning services for older adults (55+) and adults with disabilities, in partnership with SCE.  The cost is $22.50 per hour, with a two-hour minimum visit ($45 per visit), payable to the cleaner directly at the time of the service.  

  • Seniors Support Worker

Short-term support for at-risk seniors and adults with disabilities. They can help you to complete forms, find the services you need, go with you to medical appointments, help you pick up medications or groceries, and provide you with medication reminders.  

  • Volunteer Visiting

Trained volunteers provide companionship and personal assistance to isolated seniors or adults with chronic illnesses or disabilities.  Volunteers are matched with clients following a client's needs and interest assessment by a health professional.

Ontario’s 14 Home and Community Care Support Services organizations coordinate in-home and community-based care for thousands of patients across the province every day.  
   If you require health care or personal support in your home, whether you need assistance getting back on track after a hospital stay, illness, or injury, or if you have complex or chronic health conditions, they can get you the care you need, when you need it.    Services include:- Care coordination, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Nutritional counseling, Speech therapy,  Social work,  Personal support, Medical supplies & equipment.

Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO)

If you support someone in need and feel anxious and overwhelmed with your caregiving responsibilities, you’re not alone. The Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) exists to support Ontario’s 4 million caregivers; ordinary people who provide physical and emotional support to a family member, partner, friend, or neighbour. Community Resource Centre - North & Central Wellington

The Resource Centre is a community benefit agency for the municipalities in North and Centre Wellington. Hospice Wellington Community Services

Hospice Wellington supports clients through the experience of a life-limiting illness, caregiving, and bereavement. All Hospice Wellington services are provided at no cost to clients. 

  • Palliative care supports are available to individuals in a palliative model of care with a prognosis of 18 months or less.
  • Caregiver support is available to informal caregivers (often family members or close friends) supporting individuals in a palliative model of care.
  • Bereavement supports are available to adults residing in Guelph or Wellington County who are grieving the death of a loved one.
