We are advocating for child care in Mapleton and we need YOU!!

Mapleton is a desert when it comes to licensed child care.  Although we have the second youngest population of children under the age of six in the County of Wellington, we have not had the opportunity to have a licensed child care centre in Mapleton.  This is something that we want to change. 

Read on, we need your help!

Provincial capital funding, for the most part, has been tied to school boards for some time now.  Therefore, schools are the applicants for funding to build child care on the school property.  In Mapleton, the public schools in Drayton and Moorefield require their space for future growth and cannot support a child care centre. 

In the past few months we have been working with the County of Wellington and the Wellington Catholic District School Board to bring Mapleton Child Care into reality.  The Catholic School Board wants to build an elementary school in Mapleton to serve both Mapleton and Minto.  In our discussions with the school board the idea of adding a child care centre came to life. The Mapleton Child Care Centre would have 64 full day care spots and would not be operated by the Catholic School.  That means it would be open to all children in our community under the age of 4.

The Province of Ontario announced Provincial funding to build licensed child care facilities.  We want Mapleton to be considered for this funding.  Here is where we need your help.  To boost our chances we need letters of support, lots of them, and our petition signed. 

Letters can be dropped off at the PMD Arena or at the Township of Mapleton office by Friday, February 25th.  The petitions will be at both of these locations and other locations still to be determined throughout the Township.  On Saturday February 19th from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Amy Grose, Manager of Recreation, and myself will be at the PMD Arena to answer questions and receive your letters.
